D2W, or “degradable to water”, is a type of biodegradable plastic that has been developed to address the growing problem of plastic waste. D2W biodegradable plastic works by breaking down into water, carbon dioxide, and biomass when exposed to the environment. This is achieved through the use of a special additive that is mixed in with the plastic resin. The result is a plastic that is not only biodegradable, but also compostable, which means it can be safely broken down in composting environments.
So, how does D2W biodegradable plastic compare to other forms of plastic? Well, traditional plastics, like polyethylene, will persist in the environment for hundreds of years and release toxic chemicals into the soil and water as they break down. In contrast, D2W biodegradable plastic is a much more eco-friendly alternative.
